Before we get too carried away, however, let’s take a look at the other side of things. With proper installation, your metal roof will be around for a hell of a long time. Atlas Roofing recommends using one of four underlayments as a first layer: These are 1. Asphalt-saturated felt 2. Engineered asphalt-saturated felt 3. Synthetic underlayment and 4. Peel and stick underlayment
Of course, this is just the first step in installation, but with a good, water-proof foundation and an experienced metal roofing crew, you can rest assured that your new roof will cover you for the long run.

At the price of a can of paint (granted, a higher-end can of paint), you can bet that if something does manage to break through your metal roof’s seam, the roof leak repair cost will be pretty reasonable, provided you’re willing and able to get up there with a tube of turbo poly seal!
